Nov 11: Cold Retreats, Western Rain Incoming

This morning's lows across the Eastern US set several records, mostly across the Southeast:

While not an official record, our station on Virginia Key had its coldest November low since we installed it in 2015:

The cold air flowing across the Great Lakes lead to lake effect snow for several locations, like Penn State's main campus in State College, PA:

The warmup has already started though with places across the Plains 30° warmer than yesterday afternoon and the Southeast already 10-15° warmer:

By this weekend, everywhere east of the Rockies except the Northeast will be above average:

This trend will last into the end of the month with quick shots of cooler air periodically but nothing like what we saw to start this week. Take Nashville as an example, mostly mild temperatures with short stints of colder air:

The West will be the active spot over the rest of the week with significant rain making it all the way to southern California:

There will be a sneaky system that moves through the Northeast late Saturday through Sunday that could even bring some frozen precipitation in the lingering colder air there:

We will monitor the potential for wintry precip across that region and keep you updated!
