OSSAA Requires Heat Safety & Compliance

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) has adopted a new Extreme Heat Policy for the 2025–26 academic year. Schools must:

  • Monitor WBGT (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature) at outdoor practices and workouts

  • Limit practices to 2.5 hours per session and no more than 5 hours per day, with a one-hour rest between sessions

  • Follow a 14-day acclimatization period for all student participants

  • Establish rapid cooling zones with cold-water immersion or equivalent methods when WBGT ≥ 82.0°F

  • Record WBGT readings every 30 minutes during practices
