A Winter Storm brought snow and some ice to the Northeast on Tuesday. In case you missed it, a few of our stations captured the storm. From icy conditions in Virginia to snow in Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire and finally just plain rain in Boston, we caught it all:

The storm will be long gone tomorrow and we will turn our attention to a potent shot of cold air and the chance for another winter storm. First up the cold air will come down with a vengeance, sweeping across the Midwest Wednesday into Thursday and the Northeast by Friday:
This could set the stage for some potential record lows on Thursday morning across the Midwest. This would include Des Moines (DSM) and Kansas City (MCI):
And on Friday into the Great Lakes and Northeast, including places like Chicago (ORD), Detroit (DTW), and Pittsburgh (PIT):
This does set up the potential for another round of snow across the Eastern US. Below is the past 5 runs of the Euro model valid Friday at 1 pm ET. The trend has been to increase the moisture in the colder air across places like North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia:
The Euro ensemble is indicating around 1-3" for those areas, much of which would fall Fri am to Sat am. It is a forecast we will continue to watch. Below is the 24 hr ensemble snowfall from 7 am ET on Fri to 7 am ET on Sat:
Perhaps the most important part of the upcoming pattern is the beneficial rain expected across the drought-stricken Southeast. The below is the 72 hr rain forecast from Wed 7 am ET to Sat 7 am ET:
