Coastal Storm to Bring Heavy Rain to MidAtlantic While Atlantic Basin Awakes
Remember last's weeks blog post where we discussed the coastal concerns for Florida's East Coast? Well that system has now developed into a non-tropical low pressure off of the Midatlantic coast:

This non-tropical low will slowly meander around the Eastern United States through this week, moving inland over North Carolina on Tuesday before weakening and moving back off the coast by Thursday:

The good news is that it shouldn't strengthen too much and there's not much wind expected from it with peak gusts around 30 - 40 mph expected which will be confined to just along the coast:

While normally heavy rain would be bad news, the area expected to receive the most rain from this system has been abnormally dry recently so this rain will be mostly welcome:

The following counties have Weatherstem locations that will be impacted by this system so for current observations and up-to-date forecasts, check some of these stations out:
Currituck Count, NC
Back to the Atlantic Hurricane Season that has been unusually quiet for what is typically the peak of the season. In fact, it has been 18 days since our last named system, Fernand, become post tropical and we haven't had a system since then.
We discussed in last week's blogs that the NHC has been monitoring a system that now has a high chance of developing, up to 90% over the next 7 days and 50% over the next 2 days:

In fact, it has now been designated as Invest 92L. This allows more models to be ran on the system, giving the NHC more data to make an accurate forecast.
All models have consistently indicated that this system will develop and we will likely get at least a depression if not named storm by the middle of this week. The next name on the Atlantic Hurricane list is Gabrielle. Another point the models have been pretty clear on is that the system will remain north of the Caribbean Islands and also likely stay well east of the United States mainland. You can see this in the Euro Ensemble for 3 Day Tropical Depression Probs for next Monday through Thursday:
And in the GFS and Google AI Ensembles:

A long way to watch it still as the system won't reach the longitude of the Islands until this time next week, but for now there's a low chance that it will impact the US. We will keep everyone updated on these stories throughout the week.
